Consultation Overview
This is a new position statement that examines NSCN's viewpoint on the role of the nurse in the prevention and management of wounds related to scope of practice, the nursing care plan and collaboration. We have received many inquiries from nurses, managers, employers and the public who are trying to understand the role of the nurse in the prevention and management of wounds. We requested feedback from nurses, managers, employers and members of the public to ensure this position statement is clear to these important stakeholders.
Consultation Participation and Response
We requested feedback using an online survey and received responses from 7 stakeholders with 1 respondent having suggestions to improve the clarity of the tool.
Impact on the Project
Thank you for providing your feedback on the Wound Care Position Statement. Below explains how we incorporated this feedback into the tool.
There was a request to clarify LPN collaboration with relation to the development of the care plan when the LPN is the wound care leader. We determined a wound care leader was the same as the wound care nurse as referenced on page 3 of the position statement. We added some words of clarity to better explain LPN collaboration in this context.
Next Steps/Conclusion
There will be a planned roll out of this practice support tool in the future. We have that plan on hold as we support the public, nurses and others during the COVID-19 pandemic. To see more of this work, visit our COVID-19 webpage.
We encourage stakeholders to watch for the Wound Care Position Statement roll out in the future.
